A flange keeps the anchor from being pushed through a hole. Also known as alligator plugs, these anchors split in half when a screw is inserted to reinforce the hole and resist stripping. To install, drill a hole slightly deeper than the anchor is long and insert the anchor until it's flush with the surface. Next, thread a sheet metal or wood screw through your fixture and into the anchor. To determine screw length, add the anchor length to the fixture thickness and choose a screw longer than this. Length includes the flange. Pull-out strength values are 25% of the ultimate values.
